It’s summertime and many TV show series have come to an end. Now is the perfect time to delve into all the great music out there. As I check out my surroundings while driving my Chevy in Columbus, I’m steadily absorbing great tunes. Here are some new joints that I have put on my New BlackPlanet Radio playlist that go hard!
This will be a huge record! Bobby V. has been rocking since around 1996. Do you remember “Blackberry Molasses “from the Group “Mista? That’s Bobby on lead killing it! This dude is the truth and I’m not just saying that because he’s a good friend of mine. When you talk of R&B artists, Bobby V should simply be part of the conversation.
His new song “Mirror” featuring Wayne is one of my favorites right now. They have a chemistry that produces Hitz! Mirror will be the song for the summer. I feel the whole “Mirror” concept (I got plenty of Mirrors in the house!!) On a musical note, if you love the piano, then the beginning of this track will have u hooked. Look for the new album “Dusk Till Dawn” in stores early October.
I think Ne-Yo is underrated. His songs are all different and he has changed the game when it comes to diversity. If he doesn’t have a song on the radio, then he probably wrote the one that you are listening to. The new single “Lazy Love” sounds like a throwback from the 80’s. It’s a ballad and I can hear anybody from Michael Jackson to Jodeci having a verse on this track. I’m sure the ladies will appreciate Ne-Yo’s new look look in his video…much different from the Ne-Yo “Stomp the Yard” look. I’m looking forward to the new project, R.E.D., which is expected to drop September 18th.
Do you remember when it was a sin in Hip hop sin to have a rapper actually singing on track? JaRule and Nelly kinda introduced it and were highly criticized. But now in 2012, it’s commonplace. That brings me to the newest record by Daniel “Diggy” Simmons. He’s singing on this track and it sounds like a home run to me. This dude has his jet setters crew on lock and is leading the “Diggy Movement.” Well developed by his team, this song “4 Letter Word’ is the 2012 version of “I Need Love.” My daughter Tatiana already knows the song word for word and she’s only 6 years old. The album is hot with cameos from Jadakiss, Tank and others and the production is pretty hot too (with my producer ears).
Do you remember when a song would come on and immediately bring a smile to your face? This is that song. The melodic riffs and throwback music bring this song to life. I’ve had several opportunities to see Miguel perform live and his stage performance compliments his ability to deliver as an artist. I remember when I was in Dallas at our Car Show, Miguel was one of our performers on a show that included a lot of southern acts and not too many people knew who Miguel was, but did know “Sure Thing”. Miguel’s style is in a space all by itself and this new “Adorn” track will push him further up the R&B ladder!
